At its beginning, The Journey Church met at a downtown bar named Wild Oats. For a handful of years, members set up shop each Sunday morning throughout the bar space and **boldly preached the Gospel of Jesus**. In **2011**, the church needed to expand its daycare ministry while establishing a **more permanent home**. The church then moved to the 502 E. Melgaard location. This location allowed for expansion of the daycare and larger community events. By **2024**, The Journey Church began actively working on a new location to expand its daycare ministry and growing congregation. April 20, Easter 2025, marked the first service at the 804 S. 5th St, Unit C location. The location currently houses Journey Church and Journey Kids Daycare Center. The church plans to expand to include affordable indoor storage and a community kitchen. All to **serve God and the community boldly, humbly, and authentically**. The staff and leadership of The Journey are small but mighty. Although staff play an important part of the day-to-day activities of the church, we believe it is our church family who make the biggest impact on how the message of Jesus Christ is magnified through the church. You can contact the church office at office@thejourneyaberdeen.com Originally hailing from Minnesota, Pastor Devin Hebeisen was a construction worker. After becoming youth sponsors, Devin and his wife Teresa, pursued a calling to fulltime ministry. Soon after, their family moved to Aberdeen, SD and Devin took on the role of Youth Pastor at Aberdeen Alliance Church. In 2006, Devin led efforts for a new church plant in Aberdeen for the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Eventually, that church would become The Journey. Since that time, Devin and Teresa have sought out opportunities to serve others regardless of their position in life. That includes roles at The Journey Church, Journey Kid's Daycare Center, and Journey Home. On an average week, you can see both Devin and Teresa helping at church functions, serving through Journey Home, and building relationships with everyone they encounter. Devin and Teresa also have four adult children (Jacob, Nathan, Rebecca, and Seth) and one grandchild. Regardless of where they are, Devin and Teresa stand as the definition of servant leaders. Josh is a communicator, technologist and “Jesus Geek” who is passionate about helping Christians speak the truth in love to this generation. Josh grew up as a homeschool kid in rural Minnesota, but he eventually got his hands on both technology and social skills. At age 19 he moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota to help start and run a furniture business with his Dad, before striking out on his own as a freelance graphic designer and web developer. He had an early stint as lead flash developer at an e-learning startup, led a web team at a creative agency for 12 years, and in 2014 he founded a digital marketing company. Josh is married to an Amazon woman, and has one daughter. He currently serves as an elder at Journey Church (C&MA) in Aberdeen, SD, where he occasionally teaches. Christian acts as secondary staff at The Journey. He has a passion for using technology to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Most Sunday mornings, you can catch Christian juggling things behind the soundboard. In addition to his time spent at The Journey, Christian has been in the field of education since he graduated from Northern State University in 2006. Since that time, he has been a high school teacher and is now an assistant professor a the university level. Christian views every challenge as an opportunity to learn new things to make his role at The Journey more effective and efficient. Christian has been married to his wife, Gina for 15 years and they have four sons, Liam, Judah, Callum, and Ezekiel. The people of The Journey believe that God has wired us with several directives for life: The Journey is a part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA). Started in 1919, the C&MA is a Christ-centered global movement more than 6 million strong. Greeters are the first smiling face and friendly voice that welcomes newcomers and regulars alike, setting the tone for a positive and uplifting experience. Our greeters and always looking to help. Need directions or a cup of coffee? They want to help out. Being part of the greeting team is more than just saying hello. It's about creating connections, offering guidance, and fostering a sense of belonging within our church community. You'll have the opportunity to spread joy and kindness and be the front line of information for those attending each week's service. **The Journey is passionate about sharing the love of Christ with the community around us.**  One important area of that work is an exciting and relevant children's ministry. The goals of The Journey's Kid's Ministries are easy to see, it's all about KIDS! Our A/V team is more than just a group of techies in the back. They are storytellers, artists, and technicians with a mission. They capture the emotion of a sermon, the energy of worship, and the quiet moments of reflection that connect us all. We invite you to offer your talents and amplify the Our church family loves our Aberdeen community by providing high quality educational child care, and partnering with other churches to provide assistance and life-changing supportive housing to residents in need. We provide a God-centered environment for infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children. We pride ourselves on training staff who are passionate about working with children and sharing the message of the Bible. Our center is focused on educating the whole child through each developmental age group. Each lesson offers the appropriate level of engagement for your little ones in a safe and nurturing environment. By providing a safe and educational environment, we believe that students should be encouraged to interact with one another, adults, and the world around them, rather than sitting in front of a screen. Journey Home is a sister organization of The Journey Church. Journey Home focuses on providing assistance to those going through a variety of economic hardships. Whatever the reason, The Journey believes it is between you and God. We don't pressure you for money, we don't even pass a plate like some churches do (not that there's anything wrong with that). We simply ask you to evaluate and pray about how God has blessed you! ##### **What will my money be used for?** ##### The leadership of The Journey believes it is their duty to be financially responsible with each cent that God supplies them with. To that end, there are always lists of needs and wants to be completed at The Journey. Each cent given will be used to further the mission of the church: Loving God, Loving People. God influences the world through his people. He gives to us so He can give through us. The Bible tells us that everything we have is a gift from God (1 Chronicles 29:14). Good morning! We are so glad you’ve joined us today as we begin a transformative new chapter in our walk together. This our **9-week series** titled **"The Fruit of the Spirit."** We are going to slow down and take an honest look at the evidence of God’s work in our lives. We often talk about "discipleship" as a path we walk, but how do we know we’re actually moving in the right direction? In his letter to the Galatians, the Apostle Paul gives us the ultimate "spiritual pulse check." He explains that when we truly submit to the leadership of the Holy Spirit, our lives will inevitably begin to produce a specific kind of harvest. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." — **Galatians 5:22-23** Discipleship is a process of cultivation. Just as a branch must stay connected to the vine to grow fruit, we must stay connected to Jesus to see these virtues take root in us. We made an unexpected run to buy some commercial kitchen equipment and other furnishings. ## We've had a ton of progress from some of our subcontractors. The exterior spaces are getting their curb and driveways completed and the HVAC crew has been busy installing a new unit on the roof. ## God is good. Last Sunday we had our first building committee meeting at the new facility. Several rooms have been primed and one actually has a first coat of paint on it. ## The electricians have started running power to our electrical subpanels, our plumbers have finished up one set of bathrooms, and our IT folks have started laying the infrastructure for our internet, etc. ## We have been so excited to see people, volunteers and contractors, using the skills God has gifted them. We've hit a couple of small snags with completing small tasks, but they won't hold us back. ## This week, we've been reminded of the rebuilding of the temple and walls in Jerusalem. Nehemiah was methodical with the walls and split the people accordingly to rebuild it. Through service they uncovered sin between one another and their dependence on God. ## We know that God has big plans for this church and daycare. Lots of progress, but not much looks different! Rewarding at times and frustrating at times. ## This week we also worked on the floor of the sound and broadcast booths and built the foundation of the stage. ## As the project grows closer to completion, we would ask for prayers for stewardship and financial stability. In fact, we are starting to look at finalizing our timeline. This project has come along way and we are excited to see God use it. ## This coming week we will have, hopefully, our final electrical inspection and then we can sheetrock and mud the remaining walls. We've completed some final "rough-in" inspections, we've had more volunteers than ever before, and God has provided the funds to wrap the project up soonish... ## So what happened this week? We have about half of the foyer and sanctuary lights wired. We've been painting walls and floors. We have even heard rumblings of electrical and water being hooked up! ## We also want to thank the anonymous gift of kitchen and restaurant equipment that we received. We have been putting in MAJOR hours this week. Thank you so much to those that have prayed, given financially, and of course those that have volunteered. ## This has been a tough week by some aspects. We found out three of our heating units were indeed faulty and needed to be replaced. We also found out that we needed to change up some things up. Those led to a cost in time and resources. ## Regardless of the week, we have been consistently reminded of the mercy and shelter God provides.
